Major backstage update regarding Brock Lesnar’s future in the WWE

Brock Lesnar’s future with WWE is up in the air.

The WWE Universal Champion was last seen on WWE television when he retained his title over Braun Strowman at the WWE No Mercy pay-per-view event in Los Angeles, CA at the Staples Center on the WWE Network.

WWE is now officially advertising Lesnar for Survivor Series, which takes place on Sunday, November 19, 2017, in Houston, Texas at the Toyota Center and will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets. Both Raw and SmackDown brands will be featured.

UFC President Dana White was recently a guest on The Dan Le Batard Show, and during his appearance on the show, they spoke about the rumored super-fight inside the octagon between Lesnar and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones.

“Well, Lesnar was still under contract to the WWE until next August. Who knows what would have happened. I don’t count my chickens any more, I’ll tell you that. They didn’t want to do that again. You saw what happened the last time he was under contract (and fought).”

Lesnar’s current contract with the sports entertainment company has an option that would renew the deal, and most expect that it will be renewed after it expires at WrestleMania 34, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The last dates on his current deal would be WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans or the post-WrestleMania Raw the next night. The company has rights with Lesnar that will go through the first week of August 2018 if a new deal is not signed.

In regards to the possible fight with Jones, the feeling among people is that this fight will never happen. It’s always possible that Lesnar could return to the MMA promotion for another fight, but if he does decide to do that, then it likely would not happen until August since WWE would have no rights to him.

According to the report, the sports entertainment company has ties to WME IMG, the owners of UFC, but things aren’t smooth between the two sides. White has gone on record by saying that has a good business relationship with Triple H, but it’s a more difficult situation with Vince McMahon. It’s been reported that Lesnar will defend the Universal Title against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34. If WWE cannot sign Lesnar to a deal before the event, then it may affect plans for the event and match. WWE may have Lesnar drop the strap either at the event or before then if he doesn’t re-sign with the company.
